Environmental safeguards are in place to protect natural resources like wetlands and forests from degradation during implementation. The program supports development of solid waste management strategies to improve collection, sorting, and disposal, reducing pollution and enhancing public health. Rehabilitation of stormwater drainage systems is another key focus, aimed at preventing flooding in urban areas. The Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA) guides the program to meet international environmental standards, ensuring all projects contribute to climate resilience by promoting infrastructure that can withstand environmental challenges like floods while enhancing green spaces for healthier ecosystems and lastly the program promotes third party environment and safeguards (E&S) monitoring and supervision during implementation of works to manage E&S risks and impacts.
